This week’s lesson explored social Media, personal learning networks, and topics on privacy & safety. Jesse Miller spoke to us about concerns following social media in our increasingly connected and online environment, and how to “mitigate risk, promote policy, and open needed community dialogues”.
His website Mediated Reality opens a social media education dialogue with students in a way that is not only relevant, but also encouraging in a safe and rewarding way.
Children do not know a world without our tech reality, adults have a difficult time disconnected – it frustrates us but we live this reality daily.

This week’s activity of “Googling ourselves” made me more aware of my online presence and opened my eyes to understanding the risks of privacy when using social media.
Personally, I am a big user of social media (especially Instagram) and as a teacher I want to encourage a safe and respectful way to be in these online environments that students have to be in more than ever due to the pandemic.
